Abstract
Purpose :
@EN We performed a retrospective study to compare the two techniques : CT using water or Gastrografin as an oral contrast agent in gastric carcinoma.
@ES Methods & Materials :
@EN Eighty six patients(59male, 27female) with surgically confirmed gastric cancer were included in this study during recent 3 year-period. We performed CT with pure tap water as an oral contrast agent in 44, and gastrografin in 42, followed by
¥³
contrast media. And we compare the detectability of a tumor, accuracy of the Serosal Invasion and T Staging according to the TNM systems between two techniques through comparing the CT staging with pathologic one.
@ES Results :
@EN The total detectability of a tumor is 82% in water and 79% in Gastrografin In the case of EGC, 50% in water and 29% in Gastrografin, and of advanced gastric cancer, 94% and 89% respectively(p>0.05). Accuracy of T staging and serosal invasion
is
68.2% and 86.4% with water, and 52.4% and 78.6% with Gastrografin respectively(p>0.05)
@ES Conclusion :
@EN Water as an oral contrast agent for CT study of a gastric cancer may be useful to evaluate some early gastric cancers(minimally protruded type I and type II), but not be more helpful for detection and evaluation of all gastric cancers than
Gastrografin
Contrast media, comparative studies
CT, Contrast media
